Leo in Spokane, WA Pinched Oil GasketMy Fiance Silvia ... took here 2006 Mazda 6 for
an oil change at Jiffy Lube located on 7320 North Division Street
Spokane, Wa 99208 on Monday December 31st 2007 at 3:13
pm. Where she was charged $54.28 for an oil change, and all other
services that are included on their service checklist. On January 4th
2008 around 4:15 she pulled her vehicle out of our driveway, at that
time she felt the gas pedal stiff, but thought nothing of it when
she was only moving 5 MPH out of our Apartment Complex at Rock
Creek. She then pulled on to Sitka avenue going east and came to a
stop sign, at the point she turned right going south on Nevada
street. The speed limit on Nevada is 45 MPH, at this point she knew
there was a problem she heard the engine grinding, the peddle was
stiff, and the oil light came on. She then turned on here emergency
light because she could go no faster than 20 MPH. She then called me
and told me to meet her at jiffy lube because there was a problem
with the car. When she arrived at jiffy Lube the Technician on duty
checked the deep stick, while my Fiance observed. My fiance states
that the dip stick looked very dry. When I arrived I asked the
technician “what the situation was?” He stated “that the oil gasket
was pinched, and the Mazda was leaking oil. They replaced the oil
filter, and the oil gasket. I then asked the manager John Paul “I
would like one of the technicians to ride with me to make sure the
Mazda was running fine, since there was grinding in the engine”. I
took the technician to my home to inspect the ground where the Mazda
is parked, since we hardly drive our Mazda there should be oil in
our parking spot. There was a large amount of oil on the ground.
When we returned to jiffy Lube I went down into the pit to look
under the Mazda 6, the technician explained that this was an error
by the technician who worked on our vehicle on December 31st
2006. He then showed me that the new oil filter, and oil gasket seem
to be working fine. The manager John Paul told me he understands
that this was a technician error. All this happened 5 days, 28 miles
later after our oil change at jiffy lube. The manager John Paul
stated our vehicle will be checked for any engine damages at Louies,
if any are found jiffy lube will take care of all repairs. The
Manager John Paul stated that our vehicle will have to wait to be
looked over until Monday January the 7th because it was
to late in the day. My Fiance and I were out of the shop at 5:06 pm
on January 4th 2006.
It’s now 8:15 pm. I’m going to call the Manager
tomorrow, and let him know I want my vehicle inspected by a
certified Mazda technician not someone they recommend. Grinding in
the engine means there could be metal fragments in the oil that
could cause future damage to the engine. I don’t want Jiffy Lube to
try to cover there tracks.

Employee in MA No Training
I've worked at Jiffy Lube for 2 months now in MA. ONLY so i can pay
for college to be an EMT. The training there is a joke. (Im only
vacuuming and cleaning exterior windows in customer vehicles). I was
trained poorly from the get go, and so are the other illerterate
co-workers, that "change oil" or at least pretend to.They were
trained 1-10, 10 being the best at about a 10, in talking customers
into un-neccasary purchases. and about a 1 in car maintnence. Ive
also seen done what some people are saying in these post's is that
they get a coupon or see a sign stateing 21$. But when they leave
its about $60 sometimes 40$ if theyre lucky.I cant wait to change
oil so that i can give customers what they paid for. I took a 4 year
automotive course in highschool and im vacuuming cars(ok with me cuz
its a job for college) while illeterate dummies are doing oil
changes(not ok with me) cuz theyre ripping customers off of hard
earned money. Im not an irate employee seeking revenge im a co
ncerned jiffy lube employee worried about getting a bad name from a
place that gives you that name. I dont like working on cars its just
something i did in highschool and know how too. But jiffy lube is my
pay check through college. Hopefully everyone gets to read this and
i dont get fired but if i do oh well.

Kathy in Tucson, AZ Altered My Check
I am the manager of a company in Tucson, Az. I
called the jiffy luby i have used in the past to find out how much
to make a check out for an oil change in a company truck. The
manager there told me to leave the amount open and send down my
employee. I told him that I do not ever do that it is against
company policy, also that I did not want him to add on any extras
Just the oil change. He gave me the amount and I reapeated it four
times... I wrote the check for $70.62 the amount he gave me. In a
little while the employee called and said the check was $2.04 short
so i called the manager and asked him why now he had raised the
amount from the price he gave me. He said the outter shop had a
different total from what he had. I gave my employee permission to
pay the extra amount from his pocket. The manager there had already
altered my check and asked my employee to initial my initials to the
changes. Of course my employee would not do that as it is illegal.
When he refused to initail the check the manager told him he would
have to pay the entire amount the check was no good. Thank goodness
he had some money with him so I could get my truck back and it cost
me no more time on my payroll. I am very upset and do not know how
to get this employee of Jiffy Lube in trouble without calling the
police on him for altering my check.....I turned this into the BBB
and they said I should call the attorney generals office. ** What to
do** I believe he should be put into a position that does not
involve handling money....
[922] Steve in Austin, TX Called the Sheriff
I’ve increased the type size as it was
hard to read. I’ve added a summary at the top and will attach an
audio file of my discussion with the Jiffy Lube Manager, David
Black.
Jiffy Lube in Austin agreed to do the
oil change service on my truck for $21.99. They tried to charge me
almost double and refused to accept payment for the amount we had
agreed to. They ended up calling the Sheriff on me and threatened
to have me arrested for the difference. See below for details.
I took my truck in for an oil change.
The sign out front said the price was $21.99. I confirmed this with
the attendant who greeted me as I drove up to the bay in back as I
saw other sign prices there. He confirmed that the price for the
service was $21.99. After waiting 10-15 minutes, the manager came up
to me and tried to sell me additional services to replace my
interior air filters which I declined. About 15 minutes later I was
told they were done. I don't think they filled the fluids as
advertised as my radiator fluid showed up low within an hour of my
going there. I'm not sure if they put the oil in or not because
within a month of going there, the light started coming on saying I
need to change the oil. Either they didn't put new oil in or they
forgot to reset the indicator when they did so.
When they said they had finished, they
said I owed about $37. I asked them how they came up with that since
the sign said the price was $21.99 and I confirmed that when I drove
up. They had added on several charges for additional items since I
was driving a pickup truck that were unauthorized. I offered to pay
$21.99 plus $2.99 for an extra quart of oil plus tax. David Black,
the manager refused to accept it and said they had to have an
additional $1.99 shop charge. He also said that the $21.99 was for
most vehicles but it didn't apply to mine. He eventually agreed to
the $21.99 and $2.99 for the extra quart but insisted on the $1.99
shop charge. I went out and looked. The shop charge is in fine
print on the sign that has the $21.99 price at about 100 times
larger. I recorded the conversation with his knowledge. He refused
to accept any payment that didn't include the $1.99 and called the
Sheriff on me. I left so the Sheriff called me a couple days later
and threatened to issue a warrant for my arrest.
I called Jiffy Lube and asked to speak
to the District Manager. The District Manager never called me after
multiple tries on my part. They called me to survey me and I told
them it was my worst experience ever. The surveyor said they would
have someone call me. They never called me.
Jiffy Lube
eventually agreed to knock $5 off so I paid them to stop from having
an arrest warrant issued. I can’t prove it but I think Jiffy Lube
has somehow enlisted the support of the Travis County Sheriff’
Department in their scam. Where else would a Sheriff threaten to
issue an arrest warrant for a disputed charge of $1.99 when you have
an audio recording proving the manager refused payment and
acknowledging that I was told the price was $21.99 by his greeter?
I think Jiffy Lube should refund what I paid them since my oil light
and radiator light came on within an hour for the radiator and in
less than a month for the oil light.
[921] Christine Check Engine Light
i went in for
an sir filter change and now the idealing on my car is too high
which caused the check engine light to come on
[920] Brian in Lilburn, GA No Radiator Fluid
On December 8th, 2007, I had an oil change
and radiator flush/fill at a Jiffy Lube in Lilburn, GA. This is my
work vehicle and it had over 100,000 miles on it, with no problems
till now. Not even 20 miles after the Jiffy Lube service, my engine
locked up in the middle of the road. My car was towed to the
closest Toyota Dealership. After inspection, Toyota determined that
the engine overheated, and there was no radiator fluid in the
engine.
The person I spoke with at Jiffy Lube's
corporate office in NC, they said I would have to get Toyota to tear
down the engine to the point of failure so their mechanical
inspector could examine the engine. The inspector said that the
damage done to my vehicle was not linked to the service performed by
Jiffy Lube and they were denying my claim for a new engine. He said
neither Toyota or I could prove that the engine problem was caused
by overheating.
Before Toyota tore down the engine, they did a
simple pressure test to prove there were no leaks. They found no
leaks but they did have to add over 3 gallons of radiator fluid to
the engine. If it didn't leak out anywhere, it was obviously never
put in during the flush & fill.
Since Jiffy Lube is denying my claim I will
have to pay the additional cost for the tear down, not to mention
the approximate $5000 cost for a new engine & car rental costs &
loss of work....
[919] Employee in Wichita, KS Beware of Black
T-Shirts
I worked for Jiffy Lube, as a manager, for a
very short time in Wichita, KS. Not only are the people they hire
young and inexperienced they are very active in hiring convicts on
work release while they are in jail. I cannot tell you how many of
the people I managed were work release people. More than off the
street folks. They hire the young, who are gullible and well do
anything they are told, and they ones who have no choice in the
matter but to do what they are told, these would be the convicts.
They have to work and they cannot complain. As others have said they
are all about the sell, whether a customer needed the service or
not. The management acted as if they were the only smart people on
Earth and everyone under them were idiots. To become a Jiffy Lube
manager was a big event in their life. I heard managers threaten to
beat up employees, fire them if they did not do what they were told
and the OSHA violations were incredible. The labor board should
really look into Jiffy Lube and their practices, at least here in
Kansas. I could go on and on but we all do not have the time. OH BY
THE WAY, any employee in a black jiffy lube T-Shirt is a new-bee. Do
not let them touch your car!!! What also is funny is how many people
you see wearing these t-shirts, turn over is horrendous.

Broke Lug Nuts
Went to one Jiffy Lube in my home town for an
oil change and tire rotation. When I got there they told me that
they don’t do tires. This is a brand new location, opened 6 months
ago, with 2 lifts. I left and went to the next one across town. They
proceeded to break off two of my wheel lugs, and then tell me it was
my fault as they were rusty. I drive a brand new 2007 ford truck,
how can it be rusty. When I asked if they were going to fix it, they
said it was safe to drive and I would be OK. That was not the point,
I wanted my damage fixed. They refused to give my keys back until I
paid.
Talk about going to court, guess what I do for
a living.
[916] JY in
Portland, OR Wrong Oil
I've been a loyal Jiffy Lube customer for 9
years, up until now. I recently went to the Jiffy Lube at 521 NE
181st Ave. in Portland, Oregon and realized I'm better off at the
local Honda dealer, even if it means paying more.
When I brought in my 2003 Honda Civic
Hybrid, the jerk at the counter promised to replace the oil with the
exact specifications for my Honda. After paying for the service and
waiting almost 30 minutes, I find out he used 5w30 instead of the
0w20. He also told me he had replaced the air filter free of charge
--- but when I got back I found the same dirty air filter.
No harm done on the lie about the oil filter
--- I just won't go there again with such a liar. But, what's up
with the 5w30 oil? I lost about 3 miles a gallon due to the bad
oil, and I'm thinking of taking it back to the local Honda dealer to
drain all the bad oil and put back 0w20.

Insufficient Oil
I took my car there to get a
synthetic oil change, and i have a different engine than came with
my year car, so i specifically tell them which engine is in the car,
and what other nissan car has the same variant engine / filter
combo, and i pay, everything seemed fine til i get a block away and
the no oil pressure light comes on, so i turn around and drive back
into their lot, and they pop the hood, and the oil filter is not
attached, they put in the wrong filter. they had to put 2.5 quarts
back into a turbo engine that only holds 4 quarts, and the engine
still runs but it does not sound the same.
i filled out an incident report, and they said someone would call,
but no one did. someone please let me know my right

Bob in McHenry, IL Did Not Change Fluid
I had brought my truck to Jiffy Lube in McHenry
Illinois for a transmission fluid change. Weeks later after a
transmission problem became apparent I took it to my mechanic who
called me to tell me the fluid was extremely bad in the
transmission. I explained that it was recently changed and he said
the condition of the oil was so bad it could not have been changed.

Percy in Ames, IA No Value In Coupons
Today, I went to the Jiffy Lube on South
Duff Avenue in Ames, Iowa. After we decided on what was to be
done to the car, I presented a $10 off coupon. The manager refused
to take it.
The coupon came to me or was in my local
paper. So I clipped it, along with many others. I get bombarded with
JL coupons all the time. She said the store only took its own
coupons. That's news to me. I've been going there for four years. It
has always accepted any coupon I brought in. Or given me a discount
if I brought the car in on a Tuesday. I told her to bring my
car down off the blocks, but she said the oil had already been
drained from my car. So I had to purchase the oil from JL.
In essence, these coupons are just
advertising. They just get us to go to JL and then you may well not
get the discount the coupon says it is offering. It's a ripoff. The
manager said there was nothing in the coupon that said her story was
participating. I think it's the other way around: if her store is
not participating, then it should ADVERTISE well that it only takes
coupons it send and it must have it's contact information on.
I hope consumers will stop being passive and
not let Jiffy Lube get away with this kind of marketing. It's bad
faith and even poorer economic policy/strategy.

John in Friendswood, TX Cheap Trick
On Monday Dec. 17, 2007, I took my 1989 Dodge
Ramcharger to the Jiffy Lube store on Nasa Parkway in Friendswood,
Tx. The manager, Jason, told me that I needed a new air filter and
a new pcv valve. The hood on my Dodge was open and I could see the
pcv valve. It was an off white color and covered with grease, etc.
Jason completed his work and charged me $12.99 for the air filter
and $9.99 for the pcv valve as well as the oil change. I spent
around $62.00 this visit to Jiffy Lube. After I left, I stopped at
a near by parking lot and checked the air filter and the pcv valve.
The air filter was new but the pcv valve was the same old one except
that the grease had been wiped off. A small ring of grease remained
around the base of the pcv valve. I stopped at A+ Auto Performance
in Alvin, Texas where I get work on my vehicles. A mechanic
confirmed for me that it was an old pcv valve. I went to Auto Zone
in Alvin, Tx. and bought a new pcv valve for $2.70. I replaced the
old one with the new one and have the old one boxed up. I called
the Jiffy Lube up and spoke with Jason. I advised him that I was
going to file a consumer fraud complaint with the Texas Attorney
Generals Office . Jason became upset and made an excuse that he
forgot to change it out because he was in a hurry to get me back on
the road. He offered to refund my $9.99 to my Shell Credit Card if
I would stop by. I told him I would stop by in a day or so. I also
told him that he had lost my business for 3 vehicles. So much for
not doing it myself as for as the air filter and the pcv valve
goes. I have not made up my mind if I am going to file with the
Texas AG's Office as of yet. I am going to pay Jason a visit after
I get off of work in the morning on 12/20/2007 to get my refund.
Now I really dislike people who believe that all old male customers
can be fooled by a cheap trick.

Shane in Vancouver, WA Screwed My Engine
a few weeks ago i went into jiffy lube in Vancouver Washington. i
asked them to put 5-30 in because it was getting cold out. before i
was done asking the sales person a few questions about there oil
changes, they told me it was done. it had only taken about 3 minutes
or so. i asked them if they had checked everything and he said yes
they did. well... a few weeks later after driving about 350 miles my
engine started to make noises it has NEVER made, smoking in the
moarnings ( probably now have bad valve seals because of this) and
started leaking oil very bad. so when i got to work i checked my oil
and it was overfilled by about 1.5 quarts!! so i went into the same
place and told them and i told him that my engine didn't have any
problems before the oil change and now it leaks, smokes, and makes
really bad noises. and he said "ok we will drain some of your oil
out then let you go" so i said NO i want to talk to the manager
because you guys screwed my engine! so he put me on the phone with
the manager and the manager said that he thinks that i added the oil
and that none of this is there fault! WTF!! so he tells me that i
have to prove that i didn't add any oil!? how am i supposed to do
that. I trusted them to do something simple and there that dumb! so
no i am stuck with a crappy engine and they dont give a crap. THANKS
FOR NOTHING JIFFY LUBE! if i could i would make them buy me a new
engine but i have no money to take them to court. so i'm basically
screwed because of them.

JL Absolutely Disgusting
After watching the news concerning how Jiffy Lube has been
scamming the public, I made sure that I forwarded the report to
everybody I know. Jiffy Lube cannot be trusted. It's absolutely
disgusting what you're company did to unsuspecting people. I hope it
puts you out of business!

Dave in Portsmouth, VA Don't Take Chances
I am a 46 year old engineer who has always done his own oil /
filter changes. Because I have become more and more financially
stable and my friends have been telling me to stop "dirtying" my
hands, I thought I would finally breakdown and start going to a
Jiffy Lube. So I googled Jiffy Lube and this very complaint website
came up. Now, after reading all of these comments for the last half
an hour, I have decided I should continue to do this work for
myself. Why take the risk of putting my vehicles into the hands of
potentially inexperienced or poorly motivated individuals. I have a
decent personal garage with ramps, drain pan, and tools. I know the
older ladies across the street have taken their vehicles in to a
Jiffy Lube in the past. I think they are great neighbors and
perhaps I should start doing this small service for them also.

Scot in Branford, CT Squealing Belt
i took my 2004 nissan to jiffy lube in branford ct on wednesday
dec 5th for a routine oil change. i was told i needed a new
serpentine belt. stupidly on my part i agreed to have it replaced.
i sat in the waiting room for over 2hrs watching an incompetent
employee take apart and try and replace the belt. after the two
hour wait the belt was suddenly fixed, or a least i thought it
was. since the "replacement" my vehicle now squeals every time i
start it. i will now have to bring it to a certified mechanic and
have it fixed!
i should have known better; never again will i take my vehicle
there for anything!

Fuel Line
I took my Ford F-150 truck to the dealership for a State
Inspection. I was told after they did their inspection that I had
a Broken Fuel Line Clip and a safety clip was never
reinstalled. They told me they couldn't put a inspection sticker on
the truck. They ask me if I had the fuel filter changed? I said
yes, at Jiffy Lube. I had the fuel filter changed at 19,000 miles.
The first fuel filter ever changed on the truck. The manager at
Jiffy Lube told me the guy who worked on my truck was fired
because of bad work he had done relating to Jiffy Lube customers.
A incident report was filed with their headquarters. When
headquarters called Jiffy Lube about this, the manager said they
didn't do it. My claim was denied. The fuel line clip wasn't
broken at the last state inspection. Jiffy lube replaces the fuel
filter and all of a sudden I have a major repair bill. I have to
get a new fuel line which cost $150.00 and 3 hours labor to drop
the gas tank to install it. I also had to get a rental car for the
day.

I live in Columbus Ohio and went to Jiffy Lube to get my liquids

and they refused to do it! As simple as that! It was only 15
minutes until close so even though I came at the end of my day, as
I was at work too!, there was still plenty of time---15 or 20
minutes maybe even half an hour to be sure- to top everything off.
They didn't even let me pull into the garage! There wereno other
cars and about 5 or 6 men all polite but not useful or hlepful AT
ALL. Nada. They sucked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot
emphasize enough how I almost would like to say this was sexism

[901] John in Winter Springs, FL Lost Trust In Store
I
am writing this as a concern I have for the service I received from
the Red Bug Lake Rd. location this past Saturday. I have
frequented this location several times in the past with excellent
service, however this time I left concerned. I went in for a
oil change and was told I need to change my tranny fluid and fuel
filter, I have no problem with this as it is recommended and
politely declined at this time.
The oil change service was performed and I was told my car was
ready. I went to my vehicle and noticed that the interior was not
vacuumed and the windows had not been washed, I also noticed no
sticker had been placed in my window to remind me of my next change.
The assistant manager pulled my car back in the bay to take care of
the discrepancies. When I returned I noticed that the windows still
had not been done, at this point I figured if they can't do the
simple promises then what else did they over look? I checked my
fluid levels and tire pressure (tire pressure was the same as when I
pulled in as I had a low tire pressure light on). I asked the
assistant manager to please tell the Manager I was disappointed in
the service I received, she went to the back of the bay, talked to
the manager came back and said "I told him". He never came over to
talk to me and in all honesty it was not that busy. I was offered a
$5.00 rebate if I were to come back on a Tuesday.
Needless to say I will not trust that store again and will take my
services elsewhere.
